LEAD PIPE SERVICE LINE INVENTORY

The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has revised the Lead and Copper Rule that it uses to regulate public water systems.   The purpose of the rule is to ensure that drinking water does not contain harmful levels of lead.

The most significant change to this rule is a new requirement for public water supply systems to inventory all individual service lines to determine the presence, if any, of lead pipe material.  If lead pipe material is found, the rule requires the public water system to develop a plan to replace those service lines.

To date, Harpeth Valley Utilities District (HVUD) found no evidence of lead service line material within the HVUD service area.
